MY philosophy

A healthy lifestyle doesn’t just change your body; it changes
your mind, mood, and attitude

LIVE WELL + STAY WELL

Preventing chronic disease probably isn’t at the top of your wellness “to do” list – I get that. Prevention isn’t a tangible issue facing you in the here and now. Instead, it’s a distant, potential problem, and you just don’t have the time or energy to deal with “what ifs.” Plus, from a psychological standpoint, putting forth effort to prevent a condition doesn’t really get you excited. Bottom line, working towards the absence of something isn’t a strong motivator for most people. So for the moment, let’s put the goal of preventing chronic disease aside….

Let’s talk for a minute about what you’d get if you achieved those more tangible health and wellness goals you’ve been pondering implementing for a while now. Adopting healthy lifestyle behaviors would mean: more energy, more mental focus and clarity, higher productivity, better mood, and increased happiness and life satisfaction (just to name a few!). A healthy lifestyle doesn’t just change your body; it changes your mind, mood, and attitude.

I believe in empowering my clients to live the best possible life, which is twofold:

  • Live well – Live each day intentionally and purposefully with energy, focus, balance, clarity, and a positive attitude.
  • Stay well – Stay physically and mentally healthy down the road so life can be lived instead of spent in and out of the doctor’s office.
So…while you might not be currently thinking about preventing a chronic condition, it will be a wonderful, unintended consequence of making healthy lifestyle behavioral changes right now. I’m passionate about keeping you out of the doctor’s office down the road so your time can be spent doing what you value most, whether that be enjoying quality time with family, working hard at a job you love, or traveling the world. You have important things to do and a fabulous life to live, so let me help you keep it that way!

FABULOUS LIFE TO LIVE, SO LET ME HELP YOU KEEP IT THAT WAY!”

LIFESTYLE MEDICINE

What does lifestyle medicine look like? The following include some possible therapeutic approaches:

WHOLE FOOD,
PLANT-BASED DIET

INCREASING
PHYSICAL ACTIVITY

IMPROVING
SLEEP HABITS

STRESS MANAGEMENT
TECHNIQUES

MODERATING
ALCOHOL + TOBACCO

REDUCING EXPOSURE
TO TOXINS

Traditional Western medicine involves diagnosing symptoms and treating the patient with medication or surgery.
Lifestyle changes that might support treatment or medication typically aren’t expected or encouraged.

In contrast, lifestyle medicine addresses the root cause of the symptoms and uses evidence-based lifestyle therapeutic
approaches to treat and often reverse chronic disease. While drugs and surgery often focus on treating the symptoms
of chronic diseases (e.g. high blood pressure, high blood sugar, high cholesterol levels), lifestyle medicine targets the
behaviors causing the symptoms.

A lifestyle medicine approach aims to understand and treat the whole person. I believe in exploring and understanding
the social, environmental, emotional, mental, and spiritual domains of a client’s life. Each of these areas impacts a
person’s behaviors, which are likely contributing to the root cause of any health issues.

I’m particularly drawn to lifestyle medicine for its amazing preventative power. In addition to treating and reversing
chronic diseases, lifestyle medicine can prevent as much as 80% of chronic diseases (World Health Organization)
By helping my clients adopt and sustain healthy lifestyle behaviors, I believe I’m truly helping them reduce their
chances of getting one of these highly preventable conditions.

“LET FOOD BE THY MEDICINE AND MEDICINE BE THY FOOD.”

DID YOU KNOW?

The following four lifestyle behaviors can greatly reduce your risk of chronic disease*

%
DIABETES
50 %
HEART ATTACKS

STROKES
20 %
ALL CANCERS

*(European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition, 2009)

I believe in empowering people to prevent, fight, and even reverse chronic diseases. As a result of adopting healthy
lifestyle behaviors, people can live happier, longer, and more fulfilling lives as the best version of themselves!

WELLNESS COACHING

Most coaches act as experts who analyze problems, offer advice, set goals, and/or create strategies. This coaching approach hasn’t been shown to be the most effective way to help clients make lasting changes!

I believe if you’re going to invest in a coach, that coach should help you make sustainable, long-lasting lifestyle changes. When working with my clients, I take off my expert hat and help them develop into the expert of their own well-being. I partner and collaborate with my clients, encouraging personal responsibility, reflective thinking, self-discovery, and self-efficacy. We work together in a growth-promoting relationship that facilitates change through:

· A wellness vision – What’s your dream for your wellness?

· Goal setting – You set achievable goals that feel right to you.

· Accountability – I hold you accountable without judgment, adjusting goals as we discover together what works and what doesn’t.
