A healthy lifestyle doesn’t just change your body; it changes
your mind, mood, and attitude
LIVE WELL + STAY WELL
Preventing chronic disease probably isn’t at the top of your wellness “to do” list – I get that. Prevention isn’t a tangible issue facing you in the here and now. Instead, it’s a distant, potential problem, and you just don’t have the time or energy to deal with “what ifs.” Plus, from a psychological standpoint, putting forth effort to prevent a condition doesn’t really get you excited. Bottom line, working towards the absence of something isn’t a strong motivator for most people. So for the moment, let’s put the goal of preventing chronic disease aside….
Let’s talk for a minute about what you’d get if you achieved those more tangible health and wellness goals you’ve been pondering implementing for a while now. Adopting healthy lifestyle behaviors would mean: more energy, more mental focus and clarity, higher productivity, better mood, and increased happiness and life satisfaction (just to name a few!). A healthy lifestyle doesn’t just change your body; it changes your mind, mood, and attitude.
I believe in empowering my clients to live the best possible life, which is twofold:
“YOU HAVE IMPORTANT THINGS TO DO AND A
FABULOUS LIFE TO LIVE, SO LET ME HELP YOU KEEP IT THAT WAY!”
What does lifestyle medicine look like? The following include some possible therapeutic approaches:
ALCOHOL + TOBACCO
Traditional Western medicine involves diagnosing symptoms and treating the patient with medication or surgery.
Lifestyle changes that might support treatment or medication typically aren’t expected or encouraged.
In contrast, lifestyle medicine addresses the root cause of the symptoms and uses evidence-based lifestyle therapeutic
approaches to treat and often reverse chronic disease. While drugs and surgery often focus on treating the symptoms
of chronic diseases (e.g. high blood pressure, high blood sugar, high cholesterol levels), lifestyle medicine targets the
behaviors causing the symptoms.
A lifestyle medicine approach aims to understand and treat the whole person. I believe in exploring and understanding
the social, environmental, emotional, mental, and spiritual domains of a client’s life. Each of these areas impacts a
person’s behaviors, which are likely contributing to the root cause of any health issues.
I’m particularly drawn to lifestyle medicine for its amazing preventative power. In addition to treating and reversing
chronic diseases, lifestyle medicine can prevent as much as 80% of chronic diseases (World Health Organization)
By helping my clients adopt and sustain healthy lifestyle behaviors, I believe I’m truly helping them reduce their
chances of getting one of these highly preventable conditions.
“LET FOOD BE THY MEDICINE AND MEDICINE BE THY FOOD.”
